The Ayung River runs through a deep green valley near Ubud, past jungle, small waterfalls and carved rock walls. It is the best-known rafting river in Bali and generally suits first-timers as well as families with older children. You paddle in an inflatable raft with a guide who steers and tells you when to paddle, and the trip typically takes about 2 hours on the water.

After rafting you can shower, change and have a buffet lunch at the company’s base, then visit Ubud, the Tegallalang rice terraces or a coffee plantation on the way back if you wish. - Wear quick-dry clothes and secure sandals or water shoes; bring a change of clothes and a towel.
- There are steps down to the river and back up, so a basic level of fitness is needed.
- Heavy rain can raise the river and the company may delay or cancel the trip for safety; if it is cancelled because of weather or sea conditions, you choose a free new date or a full refund.
- Children aged 7 and over can join. Not advised during pregnancy or with back or neck problems.
